Con Edison - Gas Engineering Department
New York, USA |
Jun 2024 - Present

Con Edison, one of the oldest utility companies in the world with roots dating back over 200 years, is a cornerstone of American energy history. It manages one of the most complex and expansive energy networks globally, serving millions across New York City.

My Work

Work Experience

Analyst - Gas Engineering Department | Con Edison:

  • Automated gas project reports using Excel (Macros and Pivot Tables), assisting 56 designers managed by 4 engineering supervisors and 5 contractors. Reduced the mapping backlog from 87 to 29 miles in 6 months, a first for Con Edison.

  • Gathered gas constructions and GIS data from +4 sources with +600K records to engineer ad hoc reports using Power Query and Excel (Lookup, Index, Match functions), supporting executives’ decision-making process.

  • Forecasted gas pipeline mapping needs using a time-series model and seasonality trends to reduce backlog and support anticipated NYC compliance by targeting a sub-60-day mapping duration.

  • Implemented Power Automate, MS Forms, SharePoint, and MS Lists to replace the legacy MS Access QA system, reducing QA time and increasing mapping QA to +80%, while ensuring disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

  • Leveraged Power BI and SQL Server to create automated reports, eliminating the 2-hour weekly manual update process with auto-refreshed reports.

  • Data Research Analyst - Center for Excellence | Texas A&M University:

    • Utilized Python for data wrangling, data profiling, EDA, data transformation, data cleaning, and feature engineering. Captured patterns and trends and ensured the quality of large datasets (~2M records).

    • Achieved +78% prediction accuracy for Regression and Exponential Smoothing models by utilizing Python & Excel to address missing data, data format, outliers, and duplicates issues.

    • Boosted class performance by 18% through coaching and monitoring 50 students in implementing Python for ELT automated pipelines on large datasets with +200 K records.

    • Reduced the time required to tell the data story from 3 hours to 10 minutes using Power BI dashboards.

    • Harvested articles for sentiment analysis using Python (Beautifulsoup). Automated scrapping of 200 sub-links.

    • Mechanical Engineer - Industrial Complex - Utility & Sulfuric Acid plants | Jordan Phosphate Mines Company:

      • Directed daily purchase orders up to $1M via Delta ERP for seamless operation of three production units, performing Inventory Management and ensuring a two-year supply of essential spare parts was available.

      • Performed cost analysis in MS Excel (Pivot Table, LOOKUP, Charts) and analyzed tender bids averaging up to $500,000 per bid to decrease project costs by 11% and improve profitability.

      • Led a 10-person team, optimizing efficiency to complete up to 18 daily maintenance orders for pumps, valves, heat exchangers, steam turbines, and turbo-generators.

      • Teamed with 12+ Siemens stakeholders to optimize power generation capacity by 125% at the. Replaced two electric turbo-generators (22 MW each) along with their sensors and Jacking Oil system.

      • Collaborated with Siemens's expert on a major overhaul project of a Steam Turbine (AEG-KANIS G16 model, 4.5 MW, 13999 RPM) to enhance performance. Extended the lifespan by five years.

      • Executed inspection and maintenance procedures under Siemens's virtual supervision, returned the 22 MW turbo-generator to the service at the Utility plant.

      • Conducted a comprehensive inspection on the Emergency Stop Valve (Self-Operated, medium size) and its Pilot Valve in the Steam Turbine System (G16, 4.5 MW, 13999 RPM), ensuring 100% active self-operation and automated control on ESV.

      • Partnered with Cleaver Brookes, Tulsa, OK in 2016 to perform commissioning tests on the boiler's economizers (100-ton capacity), to ensure the technical specifications and process requirements.

      • Replaced the repair kit and overhauled the Speed Governor (Centrifugal Flyball with electric motor) on the steam turbine system (VE 40, 7500 RPM, 23 MW), resulting in a cost savings of $100,000 compared to purchasing a new unit.

      • Engaged with the warehouse department to optimize operations and conditions for diverse material categories, including chemicals, flammable goods, and temperature-controlled items.

      • Tracked purchase orders and materials received while closely coordinating with the warehouse department to maintain spare parts availability as required.
